About the Event

Hear how the campaign to save the old bridge and turn it into a High Line park is progressing.

Be part of its future!

Meet Your ‘Save the Old Freo Bridge’ Team

Hear the successes!

Find out about plans to retain the heritage listed bridge and turn it into Perth’s Highline - the world’s first coastal highline park built over a river.

You’re invited to hear from the team who have been working on your behalf with experts from the Australian engineering, urban planning and heritage industries, politicians and business leaders to save the old Fremantle bridge from its planned destruction by the Western Australian Government later this year.

Community opposition is growing since Planning Minister, Rita Saffioti announced Main Roads plans to demolish the bridge. Seven thousand people have signed a petition to save the heritage listed Old Fremantle Bridge and repurpose it into a Highline.

The 82 year old timber bridge has the highest level of heritage rating available in Western Australia. The bridge sits on the site of the previous timber bridge which was built by convicts.

The free public event presented by The Fremantle Society, Save the Old Fremantle Bridge Alliance and Fremantle Bridge Project will provide the opportunity for you to hear from the team who has been working to retain the bridge. It will offer the opportunity for you to ask questions and for you to join special interest committees established to support the campaign.

You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from Fremantle Council Mayoral and counsellor candidates who are in support of the retention of the bridge. Each will give a brief overview of what they will do to ensure the bridge stays.
